Menu Plan Monday (on Tuesday) 6/22/2009-6/28/2009

So, a day late and a dollar short, here's my food plan for the rest of the week.

Monday - Frozen pizza
Tuesday - Macaroni and cheese & green beans
Wednesday - Breakfast for dinner (by the way, I'm sticking with my original Cooking Light hashbrown casserole recipe. The crockpot recipe I tried a couple of weeks ago was on the less good side.)
Thursday - Box of Thai food stuff and noodles
Friday - Eat out? Or Taco Night with company? I still haven't decided.
Saturday - Wedding shower
Sunday - Foster's Market Macaroni and Cheese - I never got around to making it last week, what with all the moving. We'll try for it again this week.

It's a little heavy on the processed food this week. I moved into the new apartment this past weekend, and I LOVE it (especially all the counter and cabinet space in the kitchen), but I'm moving at a glacial pace when it comes to unpacking. I just finished unpacking the kitchen stuff last night, so I'm making some low-maintenance meals this week. Some folks from the Husband Elect's family are hosting a shower for us on Saturday, so that should take care of dinner that night. A bunch of out of town folks are going to be crashing at the new place, so I'm in a hurry to get enough space cleared out to throw down some air mattresses and pull out the couch bed.

In the interest of full disclosure...

I think you should know that I:

1) hardly EVER use a seam-ripper and re-do seams, hence the blog name. It stays where it lays, ladies.

2) buy way too many groceries each week because I just can't resist a "good deal" and love to see how much money I "save" at the bottom of my receipts.

3) watch the Bachelor(ette). Don't judge. We all have our guilty pleasures on TV.

4) don't ever buy my backings from the local quilt shops. $9/yard for fabric most people won't ever see? I don't think so. Thousands of Bolts is my BFF.

5) lick cookie dough off my finger and sometimes (read: pretty much always) stick it back in the bowl for another bite.

6) have only read about 15% of the books on my bookshelves. I got really paranoid a couple of years ago that in order to get a librarian job, I was going to end up in a teeny-tiny library in the middle of nowhere Alaska (where we discovered last year that some books are subject to abject censorship), so I started stockpiling books from the local library booksales I would read in such a situation (We're talking 20-30 books acquired at a time, 4 times a year). Luckily, I have a librarian job at a library with a GREAT collection, surrounded by lots of fantastic public library collections, and between all those options, I can pretty much get whatever I want. I'm gradually de-accessioning many of those books from my collection and donating them back to the public library, so the Friends of the Library can hopefully make money on them. again.

7) don't like batik fabrics. I know they're uber-nice and mega-expensive, but I just don't get it. I'll take a paisley over a batik any day of the week.

8) hoard magazines, any title, any topic. I blame my mother. She would never let me subscribe to anything when I was growing up except Highlights, so now I can't get enough of them. Even the old lady magazines and TV Guide. But don't worry. I harbor no grudge against Mom. She's offered to set up 3 magazine subscriptions each for me and the Husband Elect (of our choice) once we get a permanent residence.

9) eat some form of macaroni and cheese at least once a week. I have a whole tag devoted to it on my del.icio.us page and buy the blue boxes 6 at a time (or as many as the grocery store will let me) when they go on sale for $0.50 or less at the grocery store.

Menu Plan Monday, 6/15/2009-6/20/2009

I'm moving to a new apartment Friday, so I'm doing my best to use up as much food from my fridge and pantry as possible without getting new food from the grocery store. We'll see how I do...

Monday - Bean and Cheese Burritos
Tuesday - Foster's Market Upscale Macaroni and Cheese (I cannot say enough good things about this recipe. It's, hands-down, one of my favorites of all time.)
Wednesday - Black Bean Soup (crockpot) and Cornbread
Thursday - Tortellini Salad
Friday - Frozen Pizza
Saturday - Carrburrito's!!

Menu Plan Monday, 6/8/2009-6/12/2009

I'm not going to be very adventurous over the next couple of weeks. I'm getting ready to move into a new apartment, so I'm sticking with tried and true recipes as I sort through and pack up all my stuff.

Monday - Spinach-Stuffed Shells, Asparagus, and French Bread
Tuesday - Not Your Mama's Nachos
Wednesday - Breakfast for Dinner - English Muffins, Scrambled Eggs, and CrockPot Hashbrown Casserole
Thursday - Cheesy Baked Tortellini and Broccoli
Friday - Frozen Pizza
Saturday - @ Mom's and Dad's
Sunday - Macaroni and cheese, Green Beans, Mashed potatoes

Menu Plan Monday, 6/1/2009

The past couple of weeks, I've been making an effort to use my cookbooks and try new recipes more often. The Husband Elect bought me Bon Appetit's Fast Easy Fresh for Christmas this past year, and it's become my new go-to book for planning tasty weeknight meals. This week is pretty pasta-heavy, but I'm trying to use up food in my pantry so I don't have to throw out or move lots of food when I move out at the end of the month.

Monday - Cheese Tortellini with Pesto Cream Sauce (Fast Easy Fresh, p. 220)
Tuesday - Thai Noodle Soup (another food the Husband Elect bequeathed when he moved out of his apartment a couple of weeks ago)
Wednesday - CONFERENCE
Thursday - Frozen Pizza
Saturday - Orzo with Tomatoes, Feta, and Green Onions
